Best Birthday Gifts for a 2 Year Old

This post has been floating around in my head for a couple of months now… and since BD will be two in less that two weeks, I figured I would go ahead and make the time. :)

Birthdays for little ones can involve SO MUCH STUFF…. I mean we have trouble finding places to put all the toys with out it becoming a plastic wonderland at our house.  So in an effort to limit the down pour of unnecessary gifts… I figured I would share.

So last year we threw a giant first birthday on a budget for BD.  We thought that asking the guests to give to a charity instead of giving gifts to BD would be an awesome idea.  It mostly worked, we did not get too many toys, and gave over $300.  If you are having a party this is a great idea and let your little pick the charity.  This year we are not having a big bash, but there will still be some giving involved :)… since BD loves babies we are hoping to donate to help fund a friends adoption.

We also sent out an email to our family inviting them to donate to BD's college fund.  I will be honest… this has not been that popular, most people would rather give a toy.  But every little bit helps right?

Now to the "gift gifts" :)

Melissa and Doug Upper and Lower Case Alphabet Puzzle…
And other puzzles.  These are so good for the brain, that I don't mind having a bunch around.  Just using her name puzzle BD has already learned most of the letters in her name, so this seemed like a natural next choice for us.  Don't tell her, but we already purchased this one for her :).

Diggin Active Skuut Wooden Balance Bike
There is nothing quite like  present that gets you outside and moving.  This will also prepare children to have the balance to ride the bike and is recommended for 2-5 year olds.  Pretty long life for a toy!

Schwinn Toddler's Carnival Girl Helmet
When you get a bike you have to have a helmet too… enough said :)

Skip Hop Zoo Backpack, Lunchie, and Bottle Set
To be honest this  has been a want for a long time that has been slowly transforming into a need.  Right now I still use the diaper bag everywhere and seriously look like a bag lady when I come to work.  It would help if BD carried her own book bag!

Step2  WaterWheel Activity Play Table
I went back and forth about whether to put this one on here or not, because you can just use a large plastic tupperware bin as a sensory table… in fact that is what we currently do.  But ultimately I decided this would be easier for her and so I would mention it.  Also since we don't have the room inside I like that this one is plastic and can live outside.

Melissa and Doug Deluxe Watercolor Paint Set
You can't go wrong with paint and other art supplies.  This is such a natural way to learn the colors!!

Little Tikes First Slide
We don't have a slide yet for BD, probably behind the curve, I feel like this is a typical one year old present, but I am sure we would still get a lot of use out of it!
