Merry Christmas... and a Happy New Year

Hey there, long time no write!  I had the intentions of sharing this before Christmas, but alas life.  I still could not get the thought out of my mind and for me that means I must write.  And you... if you choose to continue can read along.

Christmas card photos. If I am being honest with you... they are not Andrew's favorite. Something about getting dressed up and trying to capture that "oh so perfect" picture, just doesn't appeal to him. Add two small children to the mix and it can just be too much. When I tell him its that time of year he reluctantly goes along with it, but he would honestly rather not.

Now let me jump to my husband's defense, He is in no way a Grinch. In fact he loves Christmas (he is one of those that does not like to put decorations up until after Thanksgiving, but that's a discussion for another time.) I think it is the shiny perfection that we tend to strive for in our photos. The photos are pretty and all but do they really reflect the year that the family has had? Do they capture the struggles and hardships? Or like social media do they just paint the perfect picture and leave people wondering, how can their life be so perfect?

In light of all these thoughts, I am not suggesting we give up on the idea of Christmas photos and cards all together. Instead, just change how we view them.

One-

upon receiving Christmas cards or seeing them on the internet, thank God for this family and appreciate the impact they have had on your life.

Two-

realizing this is a very pretty picture of a very real family, save it. Save it for when all the glitter of the Christmas season has passed and take time to pray for the family. Pray for their year, their struggles both known and unknown. And most of all remember this pretty family has a real life that needs real prayer.

And that's really the point. Sometimes in the midst of this season we forget about real. We forget about what would have been considered a scandalous and embarrassing engagement. We forget that baby was actually born in a manger with animals all around (all you mamas out there just take a minute to imagine if that was your delivery!)We forget that that baby is not just a baby that He is the God Man. We forget that he came to live a perfect life and be a perfect sacrifice for us.

So this next year, keep those perfect Christmas cards around to remind you to engage in real prayer, for real people and to celebrate a real Savior.

PS- We sent almost no Christmas cards this year, soooo, if you did not get one this is yours and there is a fun little video!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Friday Round Up...

I have not been this excite about a post/series in a while:
No Spend September Time :)
http://www.ourlifeonabudget.com/2016/08/no-spend-month-goals.html
There is a free printable to get you started and come back over the next few weeks I have some more helpful tips as well.

TWO

I got a simple Target planner at the beginning of the year and it was falling apart.  After much thought, I got a new planner... and I LOVE it.
It is a Passion Planner.  They have an August- July version, January-December version, and an unmarked version (I got the August- July version.)
Y'all have a favorite planner?  I would love to hear about it :)
ALSO... here are a few of my must have planner "accessories"

THREE

Philippians 4:4-7 says “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; ***do not be anxious about anything***, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Emphasis mine).

Sometimes I justify my stress, but it is not justified at all, it just shows a lack of faith. This week it took an afternoon full of moment by moment prayer and sometime at a park to let it go and fully trust God!

God is teaching me...

About Discipleship.  As Christians we are all called to it.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20

My small group just finished going through a video study called The Anatomy of a Disciple.  It took time to really break down qualities of a disciple.  This fall we are focusing our small group more and in addition to the study of Scripture will be going through the book Growing Up.  This book is al about the practical side of discipleship and I am P.U.M.P.E.D. about it!  Have you read these books?  Interested?  I highly recommend them!

I always get confused when people say summer is so chill. I find that summers are just as full minus the consistent schedule (I could add equals tired kiddos and regular meltdowns). All that to be said summer is still my fave and I am enjoying it!

Some of my Instagram photos from the week!

Finally added a little decor to this wall :)

This big man had his one year check up... and when I say big I mean big coming in at just short of 30 pounds!!!

God is teaching me...

“"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit."”
Jeremiah 17:7-8 ESV

May we be firmly planted at the source of life, that we may persevere through trials and bear fruit!

*You are daring and will not be left behind.
*You crack yourself up and laugh at your sister too.
*People are really drawn to you!

*You are processing everything now!

For Jameson Luke…

And just like that it is here.  12 sweet months with you coming to one year! It has been so quick and we have trie to soak in every last snuggle while embracing your every change!

You are daring, smart and your own little man.  You love your family and friends.  You dance, walk crawl, talk, "jump" and more.
